East Hawaii artist Ken Charon is continuing his children’s drawing class for students 8-13 years old from 2:15-4:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the Hilo Armory.
Charon studied art in Europe and California and for the past 38 years his work has been exhibited throughout the state and beyond. He offers a safe and encouraging environment for keiki to express themselves through art.
Young artists are invited to draw from a choice of portraits, still-lifes and master works from art history, and take occasional field trips to scenic spots in downtown Hilo as a way to improve their drawing skills.
“Once a drawing from life is completed they are invited to draw freely from their vivid imaginations,” Charon said. “This approach allows for improvement through practice as well as freedom of expression, where the child chooses what to draw from a variety of subjects and their own ideas.”
Charon also facilitates entries into local art exhibits available to young artists.
